Roast Beef Broth Left in Crock Pot Still Good
04/18/2012
Information technology would be very helpful and courteous to review a recipe made EXACTLY the fashion it is written. It is not beneficial at all to read how you rated your ain recipes using some other person's name. Marie, your recipe made equally written, is excellent. Thanks!

THIS IS Crawly. Boyfriend and I couldn't believe it! I modified the recipe based on other people's comments. Everyone was proverb to add together Montreal Steak Seasoning, which I didn't have. So I looked information technology upward and it'southward basically comprised of pepper, common salt, and paprica. For the rub i combined one Tbsp each of kosher salt, crushed peppercorns (i crushed), and paprika. I also added nigh 1 tsp. of garlic pulverisation. This I rubbed on the meat and sprayed a fiddling olive oil over top. To the pot, i added 3 big chopped carrots, vi or so small red potatoes (chopped), an onion, and half a container of pocket-sized fresh mushrooms. Additionally, I added 2 bay leaves, nearly a tsp. of worshire sauce, and the onion soup mix along with the water. Didn't take celery. SUPER SPICE-A-RIFIC!!! Savour!

I take cooked a lot of roast in my day and this is the ONLY time information technology has come out perfect! I didn't add any vegetables with it except for cutting an onion in half and setting it on elevation of the roast for the terminal 3 hours of cooking time. I fabricated mashed potatoes and dark-green beans separate, just don't like my potatoes to taste similar anything except potatoes. I too whisked 2 teaspoons of cornstarch with ane/two cup water and added to the au jus that I transfered to a sausepan. I boiled the au jus mixture for about five minutes, whisking often, for a wonderful brownish gravy. I was tempted to non cook information technology equally long as the recipe calls for, but please but let information technology cook and keep check on the liquid level. Roast cooked this manner simply melts in your mouth! Thanks for sharing your talent!

why do people take a recipe and turn information technology into another totally differtn recipe using it equally a review? Just create a new recipe.

This was fabulous. I took a few reviewers communication and soaked the roast in cherry wine vinegar over night. I made a rub with pepper, salt, lemon pepper and freshly minced garlic and then browned the roast on all sides. I was using my mother in law'due south roaster and information technology didn't have low, med and loftier and so I fix information technology to almost 200 degrees for 8.5 hours. I added the onion soup mix, some onion, lots of garlic, carrots, some celery we needed to get rid of and ii potatoes. We served information technology with Sky High Yorkshire Pudding (allrecipes.com) which was great! We also had garlic mashed potatoes and an easy green salad. This was an AT recipe and we'll use it again!
10/02/2006
Great recipe, but I browned the meat on all sides later on seasoning the roast with Montreal Steak Seasoning prior to putting it in the slow cooker. This added dandy depth of flavour to the meat and the finished gravy. I omitted the potatoes from the slow cooker, and oven roasted them instead with olive oil, common salt/pepper and whole garlic cloves during the last hour of cooking the roast. A crispy contrast to the luscious gravy. My family loved this meal!
12/05/2003
Very, very good--the only affair I did different is added a couple beefiness bouillon cubes and more water so that I could brand lots of gravy. I even chopped upwardly the left over roast put it dorsum in the slow cooker and made a stew with information technology--it was slap-up! Cheers Marie!
08/12/2011
I followed the recipe exactly and was a fleck disappointed. I had high hopes starting out only the finish result was rather bland. Don't get me wrong, the meat was nice and tender, the veggies yummy (a little mushy, simply a proficient mushy), and there was plenty of gravy. Withal it needed flavor, also searing the meat with table salt and pepper didn't practice anything for it. What I would do next fourth dimension is sear the meat with Worcestershire, olive oil, and a little butter. So after I put the meat into the crock-pot with veggies on top of the meat. I would deglaze the pan with a mix of either Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon and beefiness stock. Then I would cascade the liquid with pan drippings into the crock-pot. I'yard not sure if I would apply the onion soup mix or not, I think that would depend on the users personal preference.
03/30/2007
Really enjoyed this, my construction working fiance & his friends practically inhaled this! I did supplant the water with beer and added a little beef boullion... my gars was overjoyed to find a new way to become beer into his system and it gave it an amazing flavour! At that place were no leftovers at all.
09/xvi/2008
I used this as a starting point to learning how to brand a slap-up roast. The first time I followed the recipe. The 2nd time I tweaked information technology afterwards reading the reviews. At present, I have created a masterpiece. This is how I practise it:Brand certain you apply a Chuck roast first of all. Then, brown the meat with common salt, pepper, garlic/onion as desired. Then, place in slow cooker. Deglaze the pan with a picayune beef broth and then add it and addtional tin can to ho-hum cooker (total 2 cans of beef broth). Cascade i envelope of dry onion soup mix on summit, and i tBLsp of Worceshire sauce on top of the meat. Cook on low for 8hrs. Afterwards half-dozen hrs. add quartered red potatoes and carrots to the slow cooker. When done information technology will be falling apart so remove from slow cooker advisedly. Make gravy past using broth and flour/cornstarch/h2o mixture and heating to just boiling in carve up bucket stirring constantly till desired thickness is acheived. Yum!
04/28/2013
To all the reviewers that said "It was delicious, Simply I modified the recipe by adding this or changing this". Once you alter anything virtually an original recipe, you lot are no longer cooking the recipe but a new recipe that volition taste zip like that ane.
09/29/2008
For those of you that desire a thicker gravy, add together flour and onion (for flavour) when yous are browning the meat. Browning the meat gives it a squeamish colour and there volition be no additional steps at the cease for a thicker gravy. I observe that beefiness broth gives a "tinny" gustation. Using chicken broth lets the gustation of the beef shine through. I utilize craven broth forth with a nice dry out red vino. Think that when adding wine, do non add a wine that is besides fruity or has been "oaked" (usually older wines). The long cooking time will concentrate any fruit, oak or other flavors that the wine has. Also when adding vegetables, add them about halfway through the cooking fourth dimension and Not in the beginning. Delicious!
eleven/10/2008
Fall apart TENDER! I've been making this recipe for many years (before this was even added). In that location's no need to brownish roast starting time! No need for the table salt! THE ONION SOUP MIX HAS ENOUGH Salt IN Information technology Lone! Listen- Just throw the roast in the crock, just place carrots effectually it, (Use the cut up potatoes for mashed, it just goes much amend with the tender roast!)comprehend top of roast with onion soup mix and then Meridian WITH CREAM OF MUSHROOM SOUP. You'll see it'due south just fantabulous!
04/15/2009
In combination of several suggestions in the reviews, this was just the MOST DELICIOUS AND TENDER roast I take e'er tasted (it was besides my offset fourth dimension making one)! Here'southward what I did... I sliced a 2½ lb boneless beef chuck pot roast into 4 large serving pieces. It didn't have much fat so no trimming was necessary. In a deep dish, I rubbed all sides with steak seasoning, fresh footing black pepper, coarse kosher table salt, and about two+ tablespoons prepare-to-use minced garlic then poured about 1+ tablespoon balsamic vinegar and Worcestershire sauce on top turning the meat to coat. While that sat, I sliced upwardly a yellow onion so browned the meat on all sides with the onion in extra virgin olive oil. Transferred the meat (including all the juices in the pan) to my slow cooker, added ane cup beef broth, i+ tablespoon minced garlic, ¼ packet of onion soup mix (leftover from making dip), fresh basis pepper, garlic salt, oregano, marjoram, thyme, and paprika. Covered and fix to low for 6-8 hours. Just about ii hours before it was done, I added whole baby carrots, chunks of celery, cherry onion, and mushrooms. Instead of calculation potatoes, I made mashed potatoes and brown gravy from the juices. The original recipe is a skillful "base". Just be creative and utilise your spices!
03/17/2011
I have prepared my pot roasts this fashion quite a few times at present, and am finally getting effectually to reviewing the recipe! Sometimes I add a teaspoon or two of Ameliorate than Bouillon beef base of operations, a clove or two of minced garlic, or utilise beefiness broth rather than water, merely the basic recipe always remains the aforementioned, and ever turns out delicious. I had planned on making this today, actually. I bought my beef in bulk from a local farmer who raises grass-fed cows for the first fourth dimension ever, and was so excited to pop my first grass-fed roast into the crock pot this forenoon! I defrosted it, unwrapped it, and and so realized it was actually a vii-bone chuck roast. Not a boneless chuck roast. I had already defrosted it, so I went ahead and browned it, then tried to stuff information technology in my crock pot. No such luck. Information technology wasn't going to fit. So, it saturday in my refrigerator in my covered roasting pan "marinating" in the onion soup mix and water all day while I did some research on how to cook a 7-bone roast in the oven. Simply in case anyone wants to employ this blazon of cut, or finds themselves in a like bind, here'southward what I did: broil covered at 280 for iv hours, calculation the veggies at the last hour. The result was fall-off-the-bone, slice-with-a-fork, melt in your oral cavity tender and absolutely succulent! Crock pot is good, only this method produced a roast equally equally good. The adjacent "variation" I'yard going to try is to make my ain onion soup mix from a recipe also here on AllRecipes. Can't wait!
02/15/2011
Slap-up base of operations recipe! I took the advice of others and browned my meat in olive oil but first I rubbed it with Montreal Steak Seasoning on all sides. I used a 1lb bag of carrots and almost 5 red potatoes - skins left on, whole onion - sliced, and 2 stalks of celery. I used ii cups of h2o and boiled it on stove with 2 beef boullion cubes. I added the onion soup mix to the boiling beef broth and poured mixture over meat and veggies in crock pot. I as well added about i/4C worcestershire sauce. I added some garlice pepper & garlic salt to the crock pot. Cooked on low for ix hours and meat was falling autonomously! I removed the roast from the crock pot and cut it up then added corn starch mixed with cold h2o to the crock pot to thicken up the juices into a gravy. Everything was perfect!!
06/30/2010
calculation my 2 cents! I did alter information technology based on other reviews...2 pkgs of o.s.m instead of one, instead of h2o I used a one-half cup of beef broth and a half cup cooking wine, and I also threw in a can of cream of mush. soup....I know the bespeak is to get away from a soup mix (foam soup that is) merely I thought information technology was the best roast that I have e'er made!!! Oh one more than thing...I omited the potatoes and fabricated mashed instead! I know that people sometimes have something to say about people rating a recipe later on they have added thier own tweeks, simply isint it what its kind of near?? getting ideas from others and tweeking them to suit our own taste? I d k...Just saying give this a try! It is crawly! My veggies were perfectly cooked as directed in the recipe!
12/26/2010
MMM.... MMM.... MMM.... yummy! Yes that sum's information technology upwards. Stop reading all the reviews and merely try it... your gonna dear information technology.
09/26/2007
This is an old standby at my firm. my mother made this many times while I was growing up, and it was ane of my favorite meals. My married man at present loves this pot roast! I don't e'er brownish the roast first, depending on how rushed I am that morning. The last time I fabricated this, I peeled and sliced the potatoes the night before and stored them in a ziplock bag with water. I placed the raw beefiness, seasonings, and onions in a crockpot liner sealed with a twist necktie and popped it in the refrigerator. The next morning, I just had to untie the crockpot liner and place it in the pot. I drained the potatoes and opened a purse of peeled babe carrots to add to the pot. Like shooting fish in a barrel and delicious!
ten/27/2007
Used a iii.5lb rump roast instead and it worked out amazingly!! The meat but vicious autonomously and was full of flavour. I did modify the recipie every bit others suggested. Seasoned the beef with footing pepper & garlic salt. Added a tin can of beef broth and a few dashes of worcestershire sauce to recipe. I as well added mushrooms during last 4 hours of cooking. At the end, took out all the veg and thickend the sauce with flour. Used more potatoes so what recipe chosen for and omitted the celery. Best roast I ever fabricated!! Very tastey.
10/14/2005
This is a staple in my firm...nosotros LOVE it! I use garlic common salt and pepper, and Lipton Beefy Onion soup mix. I also use baby carrots and sweet potatoes instead of regular potatoes. I add a can of beefiness broth to ensure there is enough liquid to embrace the meat. Cooks on LOW for 10-12 hrs, and is but perfect! I make "pot roast burritos" with the leftovers...hubby loves those! :) An Piece of cake, no-hassle, tasty pot roast!!! *annotation - shut all of your bedchamber doors when you turn on the crock or else your rooms will scent similar pot roast for days...)
10/28/2007
I accept been doing pot roast like this for years. The bonus is, brand an extra roast at the same fourth dimension, or apply leftover roast and broth left in cooker for beef and noodles, or chop leftover beef and veggies ad back to broth, add frozen mixed veggies, chopped cabbage, and a little V8 juice and you have delicious homemade beef vegetable soup!!!!!!!!!
01/21/2010
WOW!!! Let me tell you lot, I take tried to brand pot roast several times already but I gave up considering the meat ended up being dry. I used stewing beef, rump roast, and other cuts. Now I know You lot MUST USE CHUCK ROAST...that'due south what makes this recipe super! I took the advice of other reviewers and rubbed the meat with Montreal Seasoning only I did not brown it--simply put it in the crockpot. I also used a tin can of beef goop instead of water. I added vegetables half fashion through and used red potatoes because it's not every bit starchy as white. My son said the beefiness just melts in your rima oris! Tasty, delicious and great comfort food! I've always wanted a good beef roast/stew recipe and now I take it! Thanks, Marie, for sharing and telling the states to apply the right cut of beef!

I was feeling a little 50's homey and wanted to feed my family something lumberjack hearty, so pot roast was an easy conclusion. However, never having made it before, I wanted to try this recipe since it promised two important things: moist + juicy. I layered the bottom of the crock pot with baby carrots, halved celery stalks and quartered reddish potatoes. Then, I combined the onion soup mix with one can of beefiness broth and poured it over all. The 2.5 lb roast was side by side. I rubbed it with minced fresh garlic, pepper and salt, then gave it a quick sear in olive oil. The roast then joined the veggies in the crockpot, and the remaining olive oil + pan juices were poured over all. Our dinner cooked for 14 hours on low, which in the end, would have been better at 12 hours. Notwithstanding, it was succulent! Our veggies weren't mushy at all, the savory onion taste had thoroughly absorbed into everything, and there wasn't even a demand to make gravy. Next time though, I'll brand the potatoes separately. I thought they took away too much of the flavor, and will add lots more carrots + celery, and only a touch of water to end up with more juice at the end. This tasted much better the second day as leftovers, just the meat hasn't lost whatever of its fall apartiness that my family unit loves. Would definitely make this once more with a few tweaks.
07/14/2014
My 87 year old Dad prefers hot meals for supper even in the summertime. I made this crockpot repast to avoid heating upwards the house. Because information technology was just him and me, I only used a 2 pound chuck roast. Next fourth dimension I'm making a bigger one. This was fabulous! Dad raved about it and be both wished we had more leftovers. A very piece of cake but absolutely succulent repast!
02/24/2014
Actually loved the roast. It was tender, juicy and cut with a fork. Even so, I fabricated a fault. I used both the dry onion soup mix and vegetable broth. I should have used one or the other. Had I added extra salt, it would accept been style too salty. Next time I make this, and I admittedly Volition arrive again, I'll take care to watch the salt content. I'd much rather add more to my plate than adventure the dish being over salty. And I did add actress carrots and potatoes. With a iii pound chuck roast, I added at to the lowest degree 6 nice size potatoes and 2 pounds of carrots. It was a terrific repast, served with prissy hot biscuits.
12/15/2008
Very tasty roast. Quick notes: 1/2 the soup mix, information technology can arrive manner too salty (add together maple syrup to cutting of demand exist), sear with steak seasoning, de-coat with red wine and add to the tedious cooker. Worcestershire works well (don't over do it though or you are back to the salty trouble). Toss in a bay foliage and you lot are expert to get. Take tried this a few times and am constantly tweaking, but follow other suggestions and add together your own flair and you volition be laughing all the way to the dinner table.
03/22/2011
This was my first pot roast EVER, and information technology was then easy! I've made it twice, and I've always used a roast that was less than three lbs. I used beef broth instead of water and threw in tons of extra veggies. I also took the communication of some of the other reviews and added Worcestershire sauce and used a Montreal Steak rub on the meat before browning. I've left this roast to cook for up to x hours on depression, and it'due south turned out corking both times!
12/14/2008
add 1/iv cup red wine, 8 oz. mushrooms, 4 cloves garlic, and 14 oz. can beefiness goop. Thicken gravy with a two oz. dark-brown roux.
x/25/2008
A very expert basic irksome cooker roast. Later on reading reviews, I fabricated a few changes...I inserted slivered garlic into roast; browned the roast on all sides, and so removed to the deadening cooker. I browned an additional onion in the skillet, then deglazed the pan with i cup of ruby-red wine, instead of adding h2o. I added 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce, the soup mix, then poured information technology over the roast. I cooked on high for 4 hours, added the veggies, and so cooked another iv on depression. My entire family loved it. Side by side fourth dimension, I'll brown sliced mushrooms to add to the mix!
12/21/2011
Slap-up elementary and tasty recipe!!
07/13/2010
I just have to say; why would anyone ruin a expert tasting dish with that awful onion mix. Information technology'south and so fake an salty and overpowering.
01/30/2012
This was melt in your mouth delicious! I used a 2.5 lb chuck and let it go for 9-10 hours. It was falling apart and was perfect! I, like other reviewers used low sodium beef broth. I made up my ain rub and used that earlier browning it in the pan (Kosher salt, fresh ground pepper, red pepper flakes, paprika, and garlic powder). I fabricated a gravy from the leavings in the crock pot and that was delicious also (Simply the juice/broth with a cornstarch/water mixture -- added some salt and pepper). I also used Yukon Aureate potatoes. Those or cherry potatoes are really best for this kind of affair. They hold together better than Russet. I but ate some leftovers for tiffin and they were simply as good every bit last dark. Mmmmmmm!
05/05/2013
Excellent recipe. I added several cloves of garlic, ii cups red wine instead of i cup water, spiced three.three lb chuck with Montreal spice before browning it, added bay leaves, used the onion mix, doubled potatoes and carrots but did not add them until half way through. I also ran out of time so I cooked it for v+ hours on loftier. Anybody loved information technology!
eleven/27/2013
If its cooked likewise long the veges will be mushy and the roast will fall apart so much information technology's almost like soup! Adding the veges half way through leaves a tastier pot roast that isn't mush! great flavor with the soup packet!
09/17/2006
Yum - what great condolement food! I used a smaller roast (2.5 lbs) and so information technology was actually done in five hours. As the meat rested earlier etching, I strained the vegetables from the juice and stirred in a slurry of cornstarch on the stovetop. After humid a couple of minutes, I had a thick succulent gravy to cascade over the repast. I highly recommend serving dinner rolls aslope to sop up the gravy. Definitely a practice-over recipe in this house!
x/28/2008
I made this roast yesterday in my new crock pot and wow it was sooo adept. I browned a three.v lb chuck roast on the stove in a little extra virgin olive oil and salt and pepper and and so irksome cooked it with the rest of the ingredients for 5.5 hours on depression and information technology fell apart. I used red skinned potatoes which I recollect side by side fourth dimension I will put in an hour subsequently everything else. Oh yep, I substituted beefiness broth for the water. With the left over roast I shredded information technology and added Sweet Infant Rays bbq sauce and my husband and I had it on hamburger buns this night for dinner. Cheers for a great recipe Marie!
01/22/2014
I've been using this recipe for years. I'one thousand a little surprised by the review that said it turned out tasteless. Yous can add together your own touches to conform your gustation, as I have from fourth dimension to time but yous can't lose with this basic recipe. Information technology has ever come out a winner.
11/13/2010
This was my very first time making a pot roast, and it turned out neat! I rubbed the chuck roast with Montreal Steak Seasoning and garlic powder and browned information technology in olive oil, as others had suggested. I cooked it on High for 5 hours, adding the veggies in during the terminal hour (then they didn't turn to mush). Yummyyyy!!!
03/12/2009
Fabulous!! It took only twenty minutes to prep! The but things I changed were (ane) browned the meat before putting it in the crock pot and (ii) I used a pocket-size handbag of baby carrots instead and (iii) I seasoned the meat with salt, pepper, & garlic pulverization before cooking. Information technology cooked from 10am to 7:30pm and it was perfect. But as good as my moms. I also made this recipe another time and instead of using the onion soup mix I used McCormick'due south Irksome Cooker Savory Pot Roast Seasoning..came in a pouch like taco seasoning. Just mix with 1 loving cup h2o and pour over the meat & veggies. It was good likewise!!
12/21/2006
This potroast using the boring cooker is dandy. Before I chocolate-brown the roast, I usually coat it with a thin layer of flour. It helps the browning and also adds to the gravy.
12/12/2005
Wonderful, uncomplicated comfort food. I used a iii.5 lb chuck and pressed Montreal seasoning into the beefiness prior to browning. I added beef stock instead of water, a couple glugs of cherry and white wine (think french onion soup), and a can of stewed tomatoes. I omited the potatoes, and served mashed on the side. I made a gravy of a couple cups of the broth. Afterwards 10 hours on low this was tender and delicious! Cheers!
02/09/2013
This is an accented FAVORITE pot roast recipe--with a few modifications. The meat is e'er ridiculously tender, full of season, and tastes amazing! The changes we made are pretty simple-- I use 1 or 2 cans of beefiness broth instead of the 1c water (depending on the size of roast, 3.5lbs+ 2 cans, less than 3lbs 1can) I season the meat with either a montreal steak seasoning or another seasonings nosotros have handy (garlic salt, onion powder, pepper, maybe some paprika, whatsoever) and and then sear in either a minor amount of balsamic vinegar or olive oil. I like lots of vegetables so we double the vegetables and add together one-half at the beginning (mushy vegetables as a result) merely the other half a few hours before the cease so they are cooked simply not mushy (this is why i add the actress broth since i accept lots of extra veggies). I have also used the beefy onion dry soup mix a few times merely actually couldn't tell much divergence between normal onion soup mix--so i use whatever is on hand.
x/thirteen/2008
Very tender and flavorful. So I would non finish up with mushy veggies I put onions on bottom of cooker, added meat(after browning), soup parcel, i loving cup water and 1 cup beef goop and cooked that on high for two hours and low for one hour earlier adding spud chunks and babe carrots and cooking on low some other three hours. Perfectly tender meat which was not falling autonomously and sliced nicely and the veggies were soft merely not mushy. Likewise makes succulent gravy.
01/27/2010
Easy, easy, easy! And the meat was so proficient. I seasoned the meat with Montreal Steak seasoning and dusted with flour (used a chuck roast). Started it cooking in the AM with just the liquid (I added just a niggling more), soup mix, celery, onion and some garlic. I added the carrots, potatoes a couple hours before it was done. The meat fell apart and had a dainty flavour to it, the veggies were cooked well not mushy and the gravy was and then yummy. Super and piece of cake definitely a keeper!
01/eighteen/2009
I've tried this recipe for the beginning fourth dimension in December and it has become one of my favorite. Taking several advices from other Cooks who reviewed this recipe, I completely substitute water with beef broth, add the vegetables about 3/4 the way after the meat, and instead of table salt and pepper to taste the meat, I use a seasoned salt.
09/12/2006
What a great recipe!! I played with it a petty fleck & used other reviewer'south ideas. I rubbed meat tenderizer, garlic pulverisation, course ground pepper & crushed blood-red pepper on it earlier I browned information technology. Used a tin of beef broth, package of onion soup mix & bulky onion soup mix, worcestershire sauce, fresh mushrooms, carrots, celery & potatoe. Kept adding a trivial bit of salt, pepper & crushed red pepper as it cooked. It was fall autonomously-melt in your mouth tender with a piffling kick to it! Everyone loved information technology.
eleven/nineteen/2003
Not bad recipe. For a beefier flavor, I used a cup of canned beef broth, instead of the h2o, and a dash of Worcestershire sauce. This was a great dinner. I just threw information technology in the crockpot effectually 2, and since my roast was almost one-half the size called for, information technology was done around 7. Thanks for the recipe : )
03/19/2007
This was sooooo good! I did rub the roast with seasonings and a little flour before I browned on both sides. I also used 1 cup beef broth and 1/ii cup of h2o. I fabricated a little gravy out of pan drippings and added at last minute to thicken. Will definitely exist cooking this one a lot. Thanks.
03/11/2012
Family actually liked information technology. Seasoned chuck roast with table salt, onion pulverisation, garlic powder, mustard and a footling cayenne. Seared in skillet on all sides. Placed in crock pot for vi hours. Instead of h2o used chicken broth and added 2 bay leafs. Didn't add onion or celery considering we didn't have whatever and we didn't miss it. Added my potatoes 2 hours earlier it was washed, carrots and fresh dark-green beans 1.five hours before done and and so handful of mushrooms 15 min before serving. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Veggies were not mush and had great season. Only plenty left for husband side by side day and he didn't mind eating it at all.
05/07/2007
I made this recipe tonight and information technology was the best roast we have ever had (so my husband put information technology):) I read the reviews before cooking it and took the communication of some of the cooks. I used beef broth instead of water I added garlic and monteral steak seasoning. My roast was only about 2 ane/two pounds but I let it melt for 11 hours and it was amend than ever before. The vegtables were falling apart along with the meat. Thank you for the recipe and all the inputs likewise.
04/28/2013
I just want to say that yes, you need to use Chuck Roast, and other than any spices you want to add, all I have ever done to have a perfect roast is to put the roast in the crockpot WITHOUT browning, and I don't add vegy's to the pot. This style, you don't need to add any liquid. I add the onion soup mix and perhaps some extra onions, but that'south information technology. Very basic. I melt information technology on high for iv to five hours. Washed! Information technology just falls apart...love it, love it, love it!
03/22/2010
I browned the roast 1st & then cooked the onions in the same pot before adding to the crockpot. I used beef broth instead of the water & increased it to two cups. Absolutely delicious!
03/10/2014
Crawly Marie! I had a six pound chuck roast so I adjusted the recipe for 12 servings. Used red potatoes, skin on, quartered. Everything was delicious. Had meat left over so have cut the meat into ane inch cubes. Threw that into the crockpot with a mix of dry onion soup, water and cream of mushroom soup. Will throw all that on top of flat egg noodles tonight. Walla, beefiness stroganoff! Thanks for sharing your recipe. Cook on!
01/22/2003
This was elementary to prepare and very expert. My two teens LOVED it. The gravy is more "au jus" so it can exist sopped upwardly with bread. For leftovers, I shreaded the meat and it was even better. Instead of just using table salt and pepper when I browned the meat, I used a season all type of seasoning and the flavor was total and rich. Definately a keeper.
02/18/2009
This was really good and I knew it would be. I did add together a cup of ruby wine and a can of gold foam of mushroom for thicker gravy just I know information technology would have been fine without it.
04/28/2011
delicious! i browned the meat as stated and that made all the divergence in the manner it came out (every bit opposed to how i used to irksome cook it before). thanks for the recipe
09/19/2000
This was the first time I have e'er made a roast in the tedious cooker, and information technology was oh-so-piece of cake! And, it was very good! I used baby carrots and new potatoes (quartered)and it was gear up to go in only a few minutes! My four yr old daughter loved it!
11/xx/2013
This is the recipe from the Lipton soup mix box. Has been there forever! I don't like the way the veggies are overcooked in this recipe. It is proficient merely in that location are ameliorate. Good for novice cooks.

I've used this recipe many, many times, but have made several changes to information technology. I similar to coat a couple of sides of the roast with Grillmates steak seasoning (very peppery and has table salt), and I also splash some worcestershire sauce on it the night before and stick it in the refrigerator. The next morn, I sear the sides on the pan (with a little olive oil). I too use beef goop (or craven broth, whichever I happen to have at home) instead of water. I besides apply small red potatoes and put them in whole. I cutting all of my veggies in large chunks (onion is quartered, carrots in big chunks, etc.) For herbs/seasoning, I also add some thyme and rosemary and iv-6 cloves of minced garlic. Delicious!

Followed the recipe as shown....simply like my mom used to make it :)
01/29/2002
I made this for dinner this past Sun. It was extremely easy and the meat was melt in your mouth moist. I felt however that it lacked some season. I think adjacent fourth dimension I will add some worcestershire sauce to it. I will definitely make this again though, thanks.

This was wonderful pot roast! I used the Montreal Steak Seasoning and browned the meat ahead of time, and boy was that tasty! It added so much flavor. And I think browning the meat ahead of time seals in some of the moisture so that the roast is extra moist. I also used a can of beefiness broth instead of h2o. Yum!

I impressed my parents with this i. We all loved it - very moist and tender - not overcooked. Information technology was good for leftovers too. I have a smaller, older crock pot, so I had to cutting the roast (about iv lbs.) into two chunks, so pile the veggies around it. Afterward the first meal, I cut up more veggies and deadening-cooked them in the leftover juice so that I would have enough to become with the rest of the roast - excellent leftovers. Also, once you air-condition, the next twenty-four hour period you lot can skim off the congealed fat to reduce fat content. I liked the recipe as an easy and tasty way to go some nutritional veggies and fiber - carrots, onions and celery.

Simply fabulous!
02/03/2014
Easy and extremely succulent! I added extra carrots and potatoes as I accept a large wearisome cooker. My husband loved this dish.

Followed the recipe with 1 exception. Before browning roast, I tied it. It cooked great and after removing cording, sliced and plattered the meat and vegs. Served with buttered noodles for those who wanted them and too had mixed dark-green Salad.

This was incredibly delicious. I used a three-pound chuck roast (which was fatter than I expected) and browned it on all sides. After I put the roast in the deadening cooker, I looked at the bits in the pan and decided to deglaze it with a little (maybe three-4 Tbsp) balsamic vinegar. Adjacent I poked 4 peeled and smashed garlic cloves in the roast and poured the thickened balsamic on it. Then I put a large sliced white onion on height and sprinkled the onion soup mix over that. Finally, I poured the water over everything and put it in the fridge. Effectually midnight, I took it out of the fridge and put it in the cooker on low. When I woke up at 7, I added 3/four pound of baby carrots and some other large white onion (sliced). Later well-nigh another hour, I noticed the roast was falling apart, so I took it out and covered it with foil while everything else cooked another 2 hours. Then I drained off the liquid and allow it carve up (because my roast was so fat). I skimmed off as much of the fat and put the roast, carrots, and onions back in the pot, followed past the skimmed liquid and left information technology on warm until it was gear up to serve. The roast was fork tender and total of season. I served it with rice, carrots, and onions. I await forrad to eating the leftovers. I volition brand this again! Thanks for sharing, Marie.

This was fantabulous.Start pot roast I've ever made, chose a marbley chuck roast as directed. Replaced the h2o with the beef broth. I besides added garlic and a trivial extra onion soup for fearfulness information technology wouldn't have enough season, only I didn't need all that, the original recipe would have been totally fine. I think next time i'll simply make it every bit is with diluted beef broth. I live alone so making big things like this, I demand to be sure I can swallow it. And I did! Vegetables were perfectly done and yummy also!
04/25/2014
Extremely Like shooting fish in a barrel and delicious I followed Lyrica42 recommendations and served up with some fresh sourdough bread - perfect condolement food
xi/xvi/2013
I've made this recipe a dozen times or more. Information technology's perfect every bit is. No demand to modify annihilation!
03/31/2014
I made this and used beef goop instead of the water and no celery because I didn't have whatsoever. It was he best roast I have ever made. My husband agreed and the kids ate information technology up and had 2nd and 3rds. "Mom, this is the all-time dinner ever."
03/18/2014
I cooked the pot roast without the potatoes and carrots. I did put in the onion and took a few garlic cloves and put them in the roast. It is the best I have e'er made!
06/15/2011
Succulent! I rubbed the roast with sea salt, cracked pepper, marjoram, thyme and paprika, then dusted with flour earlier browning. Likewise, used almost twice the corporeality of potatoes and carrots and added a petty more water and 3 cloves of garlic. Just needed to add a picayune salt. Might use a vegetable stock base adjacent fourth dimension.

I made this for dinner tonight and got rave reviews from my husband and step son! The roast was tender and moist. I didn't utilize the onion soup, just used beef bouillon dissolved in h2o instead. Browned in skillet w/a tad bacon grease black pepper, sea common salt, onion pulverization before putting in ho-hum cooker. Used the aluminum foil assurance to support the roast in cooker. I used the juice from the roast to brand gravy; cooked potatoes, carrots and celery stalks at the stop of the cooking time for the roast. Yummmmmmm Yummmmmmm!
03/14/2010
YUM! I used this recipe for my first pot roast ever, and it was delish!! I added the potatoes halfway through cooking, per other reviewers' advice. Also used one tin of beefiness goop and a footling garlic; otherwise, I made the recipe as is. I cooked information technology on high for about six hours and information technology was perfect! And one tip* I used the crockpot liner bags that y'all buy in the grocery shop almost the ziplock baggies, and it fabricated clean up So much easier! Didn't change the taste or compromise the flavor a flake! I will exist making this recipe for years to come up.
10/17/2013
This recipe was very like shooting fish in a barrel to follow and it turned out great. I didn't have 8 hours then I put it on high for vi hours and it was delish. I'1000 sure information technology would accept been very good at 8 to ten on the low setting. I didn't chop up the carrots or onion. I merely made large huge chunks considering I was agape they would be mushy if I cut them to small they turned out amazing. I put whole red potatoes on the height of all of it and they were but wonderful likewise. I will CERTAINLY do this recipe again. Information technology's easy to make and has only a few basic ingredients which was a large plus. I don't like having to go to the grocery to purchase some expensive condiment or spice that I will never use once again. Cheers for a wonderful meal.
01/20/2015
So tasty! Turns out perfect every time! I similar using ruby potatoes instead of russet, and those don't get overcooked. Or sometimes I just leave the potatoes out and make mashed potatoes instead. Only use half a packet of the mix. 1 is too much! I employ beef broth instead of h2o if I have it, I like it much more than that way. Don't employ broth and a whole packet- it will be way also salty!
02/xvi/2014
Succulent!
02/07/2009
No need to dark-brown the roast (I take washed it both ways). I used my medium size crock pot w/ a three# boneless Chuck Roast, rubbed it with (Ruby Robin Seasoning &) sprinkled w/ Salt & Pepper. Put 1/2 package of Onion Soup Mix on it, poured one cup hot h2o, added 3 lg potatoes & every bit many infant carrots I could still allowing 1-two" clearance from top of crock as information technology is Of import you don't overfill your crock pot for proper cooking. (Makers' advise on filling it 75% full.) I cooked on High for 5.5 hours then turned it down to Depression for the final 2 hours.... ~Wonderful Aroma ....TO Die FOR!! 2ND-Time-NOTES: Used BEEF Goop instead of water (near 2 cups), did non chocolate-brown roast, used bag of fingerling potatoes & cooked on Depression for x 1/2 Hours. YUMMY!
04/22/2014
Followed the recipe but did use Montreal Steak Seasoning & added 2 cloves of garlic. It was very good but seemed to be missing something to requite it a little more flavor. Volition utilize this again. Thanks!
12/17/2008
My first pot roast! It came out a little tough i cooked on high for 4hrs, my mom-in-law says if on loftier i should have cooked for 3hrs merely overall the sense of taste was very good, everyone ate it all. thank you for a great recipe, def volition make once again.
09/24/2013
This is a great recipe! With a few modifications of course. I like to braise my roast in some olive oil. I had a 3.5lb roast. I added two cups of beef broth to the mix (I dear the "Better than Burgoo" brand, but I think the secret to the liquid is that I also similar to add a can of beer to it. Whatever beer in the fridge, doesn't actually thing. I personally just used a Bud Light. As per other reviewers, I added my potatoes, onion and carrots in at the half way point and saw no use cutting upwardly the carrots every bit they're small plenty and easily cook in the fourth dimension that's left.
07/thirteen/2010
This is pretty much the way I take always made pot roast. Only difference is that I don't always dark-brown it outset. But I do put salt, pepper and flour all over the roast. This fashion, it makes it's ain gravy and is never lumpy. I use dissimilar seasonings - depending what I have on hand. I accept used steak seasoning, seasoned salt, garlic salt, etc. They all work fine and are a matter of taste. I use beef broth and beefy onion soup. For veggies I use potatoes (for average size potatoes, I quarter them, for large potatoes I cut them into six or seven pieces), two average size onions quartered and carrots (baby or regular). I use lots of potatoes because DH and sons love them this way. This along with some rolls is 1 of our favorite dinners. I cook on low in the crock pot for about 10 hours while I am at work. The business firm smells sooooo gooooood when we come abode!
09/29/2010
I gave this 4 stars because I made some changes. Start, I merely used a two lb roast. I followed the advice of others and rubbed Montreal Steak Seasoning on it and browned it in a bandage fe skillet. I as well substituted 1 cup beef goop for the water. When I came home from work, the house smelled incredible! Baked some crescent rolls and DH and were in heaven!

I've made this pot roast 2 Sundays in a row. And I will probably continue making information technology every Sunday. SO, SO, Good. I used a boneless chuck roast. Vegetables and meat done to perfection. So easy, and tasted so great. Thank you for a great recipe that I volition use once more and again.
05/19/2011
Tasty and tender. I seasoned with lots of Montreal Seasoning but I didn't think it was necessary to use beefiness broth as some suggested, so I used 3/4 c. water and 1/4 c. red vino, and I will practice the same side by side time. I left the peel on my small red whole potatoes and cut the carrots into largish chunks, and they were just correct later cooking all day on low. I did leave out the celery and adjacent time will add more carrots. Thanks!
10/24/2013
I didn't get to endeavour this simply my boyfriend RAVED nigh it. He said it was the best meal I accept made- which saddens me slightly since it was and then easy to prepare. I took a few other comment's suggestions and added some Worchestire- and also browned the meat with garlic pulverisation, McCormick steak seasoning, salt and pepper. And then threw everything into the crockpot and let information technology melt for the viii hours. Overall rating (from the swain)= AMAZING. Definitely a keeper.
02/19/2014
acceptable.
10/18/2011
And then yummy! The meat falls autonomously but like a perfec pot roast should. I followed other's communication and used Montreal Steak seasoning and am glad I did. I also subbed beefiness goop for the water. In that location is plenty juice in the pot subsequently cooking to brand gravy. Bully recipe!
xi/17/2010
Mine turned out not bad. The only reason I requite four stars is because I changed it slightly. Instead of water I used beef goop, and I added a larger variety of veggies. I took a little of the broth when information technology was done and mixed in a little flour to make gravy. The roast was fall apart perfect and the gravy was awesome. I volition make information technology again with those minor changes.
10/02/2011
Instead of the onion soup mix, I added ane tbsp Worcestershire sauce to the broth and inserted 1 bay leaf into the roast, discarding the bay leaf earlier serving the roast. IMHO, the roast was fifty-fifty better- without those pesky onion bits from the soup mix in the broth.
08/27/2013
Will attempt this recipe this week! If the meat is bland, try using a knife to make holes all over the roast and stuff with a whole clove of garlic in each along with salt, pepper and any other dry seasoning you may similar. trust me the garlic gives great flavour!
x/17/2010
I loved the flavour of this pot roast! I followed the recipe completely other than using beef broth instead of water to be able to brand delicious gravy at the end. I felt that viii hours was the perfect time for this. Others have said to wait to add the vegtables until half manner through, only I don't think they would have been as good if I would have done that. I used whole baby carrots, onions cut into fourths, and largely cubed russet potatoes. I thought they were the perfect texture with having simmered the entire time. Just a very little crunch but soft enough to melt in your mouth. I'd recommend calculation them at the offset if y'all like your veggies soft!
01/xviii/2008
Fabulous!!! I doctored this up a flake by adding 4 cloves of chopped garlic to the deadening cooker after the meat, veggies and soup mix were in. I also used salt, pepper and season-all on the meat when I browned it in the skillet. I have a v quart wearisome cooker and used five pounds of chuck roast, vi small/medium cherry potatoes, a pocket-size pocketbook of baby carrots, 3 celery stalks, about a ane/ii cup chopped onions and the garlic, . My tedious cooker was Full! I think the onion soup mix is what makes this sooooo skillful! I permit is cook on low for 8 hours, merely opened the slow cooker chapeau twice - and it came out Fabulous!!! My family LOVED it and my hubby even said this is better than any he's had in a restaurant before. This is my new favorite irksome cooker recipe and will exist fabricated many more times!! :)
09/19/2008
THE BEST EVER!!!!!! The meat was then ridiculously tender!!! It literally melted in your mouth! I did marinate my meat overnight(in italian dressing) and I too took the advice of previous reviewers with a few other changes: deliquesce 2 beef boullion cubes in the water before adding it in (y'all could use i tin of beefiness goop for the same outcome), and add 3 cloves of garlic, chopped also. I likewise added 1 tsp cayenne pepper to give information technology some boot. When it was done, I could barely proceed my beau out of the pot long enough to really serve information technology upward! Oh I can't say plenty about this roast- it was THAT proficient! I will be reusing this recipe many many more than times. Thank you sooo much Marie!
xi/02/2008
Exactly what you think of when you think of pot roast. Just perfect! I lightly floured mine and and so browned it - this way it made its own gravy; no demand to thicken the juices.
05/23/2010
Didn't demand ANY liquid in my ho-hum cooker for perfection. Cooked nine hours and had enough of liquid when washed. Don't add carrots or potatoes until last hour or they'll become mushy. I similar turnips done this mode.
01/13/2010
This was fantastic! Based on the other reviews, dipped the meat in a flour and season mixture before browning. One thing I similar most the recipe is that it is a everything but the kitchen sink as far as seasoning goes. Whatever I had, I threw in to the flour mixture. I assembled everything the night before and threw it in the refrigerator. I cooked on high for an hr as soon as I got upwardly in the morn and and so switched it to low and cooked from 8-6. The meat and vegetables were out of this world. The potatoes were soft just not mushy simply next time, I might omit them and serve over mashed potatoes. Will definitely make once again.
